Canadian rock band, Rush was formed in Willowdale neighborhood of Toronto, Ontario in august 1968. The group which released their most recent album in June 2012 followed by a supporting tour beginning September 2012 had their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced in December 2012 though they have been eligible for induction since 1998. The group which ranks third for the most consecutive gold or platinum studio albums by a band after the Beatles and The Rolling Stones has worldwide sales estimated at over 40 million records. In the U.S they are ranked at number 79 in terms of album sales with over 25 million units.

Rush was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1994 and they hold 14 platinum records and 24 gold records from their 20 studio albums.

Their music comprises of complex compositions drawing inspiration from various topics such as philosophy, science fiction and fantasy. Their main genres include Hard rock, Progressive rock and Heavy metal. Their music has however changed a lot through the years. They music has also made transitions from guitar-oriented sounds to synthesizers (1982-1989) and then back to guitar sounds.

The members of the group include Alex Lifeson, Neil Peart and Geddy Lee. Past members of the group are John Rutsey and Jeff Jones. Rutsey left the group immediately after the release of their debut album due to health complications. Members of the group are acclaimed as being among the most proficient players of their respective instruments and this has earned them great accolades and awards.

The band members also participate in many philanthropic causes both as a group and individually. Rush had a documentary on their influence on popular music released on April 24 2010. This documentary later received the Tribeca Film Festival Award. The group has a large fan base all across the world who have remained loyal even through the many changes that the band continues to implement in their music.
