The American rock band, Red Hot Chili Peppers was formed in Los Angeles in 1983. The band’s main style is rock with an emphasis on funk. The band also incorporates elements of punk rock and psychedelic rock in their music. The bands members are Anthony Kiedis on vocals, Michael “Flea” Balzary on bass, drummer Chad Smith and guitarist Josh Klinghoffer. The group has had many other past members.

The group’s debut album ‘The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ was released on august 10, 1984 under the EMI record group. They went on to produce 9 other studio albums with their most recent being ‘I’m With You’ released in 2011 which topped the charts in 18 different countries. When the band eventually changed labels in 1990 by signing with Warner Bros they were able to produce their first commercially successful album ‘Blood Sugar Sex Magik’ under producer Rick Rubin. In 1999 a reunited quartet of Flea, Fruscinate, Kiedis and Smith returned to studio and recorded ‘Carlifornication’, which became the group’s greatest commercial success with sales of over 15 million copies worldwide. ‘Stadium Arcadium’ released in 2006 became their first album to reach number one in the U.S. charts.

The group has sold over 65 million copies worldwide and has in the process won seven Grammy Awards. The band also ranked 30th on VH1s 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. Red Hot Chili Peppers was inducted into the Hall of Fame in April 2012. The members in the induction lineup included Keidis, Flea, Smith, Fruscinate, Slovak, Klinghoffer, Martinez and Irons.

The band continues to tour around the world to this day and likes to incorporate aspects of jam band in their live performances due to the improvised nature of their acts. Their recent tour for the album ‘I’m With You’ recently ranked 15th on the annual Billboard’s Top 25 Tour list.
