Queen is a British rock band whose earliest works were influenced by progressive rock. The band was formed in 1971in London. The group’s members included Brian May on guitars and vocals, John Deacon on Bass guitar, Roger Taylor on drums and vocals and the late Freddie Mercury on lead vocals and piano. Though the band started off with progressive rock as their main genre, they gradually transited into more conventional music characterized by more innovative and diverse styles.

The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001 and has had sales ranging from 150 to 300 million copies worldwide. Another major milestone for the band was receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from the British Phonographic Industry in 1990.

The band has over their career released 18 number one albums, 18 number one singles and 10 number one DVDs worldwide. Queen is the only band in history in which each member of the group has composed more than one chart-topping single. Queen has also contributed greatly to the film industry with their songs featuring as theme songs for numerous movies such as ‘Flash’ in Flash Gordon (1980), ‘Who Wants to Live Forever’, ‘Hammer to Fall’ and ‘Highlander’ among many others.  Their songs have also been performed by other artists in several other films.

‘We are the Champions’ and ‘We Will Rock You’ from their 1977 album ‘News of The World’ were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2009 with the former being voted the world’s favorite song. These are two of rocks most recognizable anthems. Their eponymous debut album and its predecessor achieved great success in Europe but it was the release of their consequent albums Sheer Heart Attack (1974) and A Night at the Opera (1975) which gave them international recognition. The hit single Bohemian Rhapsody was contained in the latter album went on to top the UK Singles Chart for 9 weeks.
