The band, Motley Crue, has been acclaimed as the most notorious bands in history. The group consists of Micky Mars (lead guitarist) Tommy Lee (drummer) Nikki Sixx (bass guitarist) and Vince Neil (lead singer). These members have had numerous problems with the law with some even being in prison and this is among the main reason for their title ‘the most notorious rock band’. They have gained thousands of loyal fans due to this reason. The band has also managed to sell over 80 million copies of their albums worldwide.

Their notorious nature such as their groupie antics, drug abuse and outrageous fashion sense earned them great fame during their early years. Their albums ‘Shout at the Devil’, ‘Girls Girls Girls’ and ‘Theater of Pain’ also brought them great commercial success since they highlighted most of their notorious habits. Motley Crue also made a memorable appearance in the season finale of Bones in May 2009 and there are indications that a movie titled ‘The Dirt’ is due to be released in 2013 which is based on a book written by Neil Strauss and Motley Crue.

Motley Crue has released nine studio albums since their inception in 1980 in Los Angeles, California. The group is set to release their tenth studio album within the year. The group has also been signed under numerous record labels among them being Warner Music Group and Roadrunner records.

On the top 10 heavy metal bands of all-time list by MTV, Motley Crue ranked at 10th position. Many groups have cited gaining influence from Montley Crue among them Guns N’ Roses, Papa Roach, Slipknot and Poison among many others.

Motley Crue alongside Rob Halford and Ozzy Osbourne headlined in the Ozzfest festival in 2010. In 2011 the group co-headlined a tour with the New York Dolls and Poison for their 30th Anniversary. The group has performed in many other tours with their last tour being in 2012 with ‘Kiss’.
