The group has recorded under several record labels which include EMI, Universal, Capitol, Columbia, Epic, Portrait and Sanctuary records. The group’s main genre is Heavy metal.
The group has been cited as the pioneers of the ‘New Wave of British Heavy Metal’ having achieved success since the early 1980s. Their most recent studio album has returned them to commercial success having topped the charts in 28 different countries across the world. The group rose to success with their 80s albums such as ‘The Number of the Beast (1982), ‘Piece of Mind’ (1983) and Power Slave (1984) which went platinum and gold in both the UK and U.S.
Iron Maiden has achieved great success with minimal support from the media having sold over 85 million copies worldwide. This has placed them among the most successful Heavy metal bands in history. In their 2005 U.S tour, the group was inducted into the Hollywood RockWalk on Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. The group also received the Best International Live Act Award from Bandit Rock Awards in 2011. Their famous mascot ‘Eddie’ has been part of the group for over 30 years now and has appeared in most of the groups single and album covers. Eddie has also featured in most of the groups merchandise such as t-shirts and posters.
Iron Maiden’s music is said to have influenced many artists in the heavy metal genre, with legends such as Slayer, Anthrax and Metallica indicating that they have always had great admiration for the group. The current members of the group include Steve Harris, guitarist Dave Murray, guitarist and backing vocalist Adrian Smith, lead vocalist Bruce Dickinson, Nicko McBrain on drums and percussion and Janick Gers on guitar.
