He is the most revered and widely known reggae artist of all time and is credited with the spread of reggae music as well as the Rastafari movement. With numerous great albums and hits such as Redemption Song, Three Little Birds, No Woman No Cry, Get Up Stand Up, Could You Be Loved and One Love he managed to highlight the cultural and political environment of Jamaica to the world. He is widely known for his performances with the Wailers (1963-74) and later as Bob Marley and the Wailers from 1974 to 1981.

Born, Robert Nesta Marley in the village of Nine mile in Saint Ann Parish, Jamaica was a songwriter singer and musician. The group ‘The Wailers’ was formed in 1963 and first called itself ‘The Teenagers’. The group consisted of Bob Marley, Bunny Wailer, Beverly Kelso, Peter Tosh, Cherry Smith and Junior Braithwaite. The group however broke up in 1974 with the members opting to pursue solo-careers but Bob continued to perform and record under the name Bob Marley and the Wailers. Bob Marley continued to record and perform his albums until his last concert on September 23, 1980. He passed on on 11th May 1981 after a long and brave fight against cancer.

A compilation album of his songs was made and released in 1984, three years after his death and would later became the best-selling reggae album of all time with over 25 million copies sold worldwide. The album went 10 times Platinum in the U.S. Bob Marley continues to receive great recognition and honors many years after his death with some of this awards being the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award (2001) and being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.
